ONLINE FORM FOR SENIOR HELP WITH FUEL MITIGATION

Heather announced at the annual meeting yesterday that there was a form available online for seniors to request help with fuel mitigation around their homes AND a second form that defines new authorization and liability process for utilizing FIREWISE equipment.

I can't locate either form on this site. Please direct.

THE FIREWISE INSPECTION FORM IS EXACTLY THAT--A REQUEST FOR SOMEONE TO COME OUT AND DO A HOME INSPECTION.
IT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR SENIORS TO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE TO MAKE THE AREA AROUND THEIR HOMES LESS SUSCEPTIBLE TO BURN DURING A WILDFIRE.

I ALSO ASKED FOR THE NEW AUTHORIZATION AND LIABILITY PROCESS FORM FOR UTILIZING FIREWISE EQUIPMENT THAT IS AVAILABLE TO ALL RESIDENTS AND LOCATED IN THE EQUIPMENT SHED ON HICKORY. HEATHER SAID THIS WAS ALSO ONLINE.

The Firewise Form is an electronic "form" that is completed online. There are two different way to access this:

Click "Go to Official EMPOA Website

Click on the flame symbol

Next, click "Request a Fire-Wise Inspection"
Fill out the requested information and click SUBMIT
OR

From this screen, click the notebook looking icon in the upper right corner

Click REQUEST FORMS

Click Fire-Wise Inspection Request Form (NOTE most forms can be found here)

Fill out the form (NOTE * indicates pertinent information that must be filled in). When all information has been filled in click Submit Request

As for borrowing Firewise equipment, at the moment, it is still necessary to contact Bob Moorehead, Randy Nininger or Heather From. They will meet the person wanting to borrow equipment at the equipment shed and provide a information on how to properly use what is being borrowed and answer any questions. The physical list is in the building, however, it is in the works to also put it online.

Hi Margie--thank you for responding. However, the home inspection request has nothing to do with our senior population being able to request help removing hazardous fuels from around their home. It is simply a request to have trained assessors out to your home to inspect the external features of the home (e.g. gutters, soffits, roofing) and grounds. I gave you a "Ready, Set, Go" brochure in your Firewise folder when we met up with you before your build. A copy of the inspection form is in that brochure if you're not familiar with it.

Yes, it would be VERY helpful to have a comprehensive list of ALL the equipment and PPE online. As my neighbor pointed out, she didn't want to waste a trip up there to find they didn't have what she needed. It would also increase awareness to residents that we DO HAVE EQUIPMENT THAT CAN BE BORROWED! I'm sure you heard Julie Blaker refer to our community as a DEATHTRAP at Saturday's annual meeting. Cindy you are correct Julie did say it was a “death trap” but when Chief Ellis & I drove them around the mountain and showed the roads that have been opened and can be used as escape routes, Julie was very impressed. She also asked us to stop the truck and take photos of an old road sign still up on a power pole and the new metal reflective sign on a metal pole directly on the opposite side of the road. Then she stated how big the difference was with legible reflective letters. But I don’t need paise or adulations to know that I’m doing a good job. Just because it is different from the way you would do the job doesn’t mean its wrong.
Now let’s talk about what I said regarding the forms. Yes requesting an inspection is on the website. But neither I nor my firewise committee will blindly walk into a request for help. There will be an inspection done first, then a plan with the homeowner and committee can be implemented.

Margie---How do residents get ahold of Bob or Randy to borrow equipment. I have their contact information, but most residents don't. I never brought up selling phone numbers and emails.

Where is the Firewise Committee at with posting available equipment and PPE online? I brought that up a couple of years ago--it shouldn't take that long. I would be willing to do the inventory and make a list if that helps.

You can simply request needed equipment or tell us about your intended project from the normal posted contact channels on the website or from this forum. [Login to see the link] or (865)446-0991
The required PPE will be issued and inspected with the requested equipment along with a required in-person safety/operation orientation prior to signing out. If your project requires a specific piece of equipment of which we do not have to issue to you, it is very likely that we will be able to simply purchase the equipment for future use as proper funding is now available.
Grant season is also right around the corner so it should not be very difficult to acquire your needed equipment. I look forward to seeing your request come through.
